Statement: Protest Against SOPA/PIPA
Silent Scenery strongly oppose SOPA/PIPA. Just like the rest of internet users all over the world, we found the arrest and the shutdown of Megaupload ahead of the passing of SOPA/PIPA Law to be disgusting.
I believe the sole concern of SOPA/PIPA is not really about countering piracy. It seems to us that SOPA/PIPA are using the excuse of countering piracy to restrict our freedom as Internet users hence robbing our rights as human to share, communicate, debate and educate.
No doubt file sharing on the Internet does affects works of art. It does affect us as musicians. But the introduction of SOPA/PIPA just looks like a million steps too far, not to mention that there seems to be a sinister agenda behind it (File sharing sites doesnt just share movies and music).
Silent Scenery believe file sharing, if done moderately, can benefit the artists financially and in terms of exposure. For those who bought our album “These Still Moments”, you would’ve read our guideline in music sharing on the album sleeve. We suggested our fans to share four specific songs from the album online (if they really feel the need to) but not the entire album.
So far, we’ve seen people uploaded those specific four songs on Youtube but we didnt take any action on them because they did it moderately following our suggestion.
With that, Silent Scenery strongly believe that good music will triumph over the habit of not paying for artistic works. I don’t know about you, but most of the movies I’ve downloaded are movies that I’ve paid watching in the cinema for a number of times. Putting a gun to make people pay for your work is just way out of line.
And so, Silent Scenery decided to upload their song “Fireworks In Despair” in full on MediaFire for you to download for free. This is our “Fuck You” to SOPA/PIPA. Click on the link below and don’t forget to download as many movies and music online as you can this week.

Advertising is dishonest and hypocritical. I would like to see an advertisement that goes like
“Hey, motherfuckers! Buy this fucking phone, we wanna make some fucking money! Steve Job had made a lot of money selling overpriced phones, we want some of that money! Do it fast cos our CEO is planning to buy an Island for his third wife next week!”
